Last of Estes...

One of our last days in Estes we tried out a new trail...

My sweet niece Ella hung with Hope, Levi, and I for a bit.  I treasure the memories of getting to talk and take in God's beautiful creation with Ella along the way as we hiked:) (Can you tell Hope is a little thrilled to get her picture taken with her cousin Ella? So cute!)

This picture really doesn't do it justice... the beautiful snow capped peaks are sort of blending right in to the clouds in the sky... It was gorgeous!

We were laughing hysterically at this chipmunk... He was so fat... The kids were feeding him these salted caramel peanuts and no lie... He had at least 15 in his mouth and cheeks... 

He would take the peanuts in, suck off the coating, bring them out, nibble a bit, and back in again and again... but if you offered another, he would just pack them in there... It was so cute~

Kim and I... Kim had her birthday while we were there and I couldn't believe all we have done together in the last 18 mos since we met... Especially since we live on different sides of the nation... Africa twice, family visits to eachother's home, and now this trip...

I am thankful for all the little facetime visits we get as well, when the kids are chatting... There are a lot of times they are like, why don't you just get on your own facetime...:) 

We have a lot in common, share a passion for adoption and orphan care, our kids are best friends, and our families really have a great time together...  I am so thankful for her friendship...

This is what is keeping us busy...

The weather has been perfect this week for some great pool time... We have been so blessed to be able to purchase a family pool pass for the last few summers... I think if we go three times we have it paid for... We have already been twice this week... 

And seriously, the place is great for kids of all ages... splash pad and kiddie pool for the littles, a pool,  and a couple of slides for the bigs:)  Grateful mama here:)

Anna finishes off the soccer season with a tournament this weekend... I think she has found her niche... She is leading the team in scoring:)  She is fast and furious... but slightly out of control... Totally just like I was when I played soccer... 

 These two are pretty much in separable... Church buddies, soccer buddies and pretty much down right silly buddies:)

And this little character is pretty much hands down the reason I struggle to get anything accomplished during the day... 

He thought it was a great idea to mix the already cooked pancakes with a drumstick... 

BUSY, CURIOUS... NON STOP is this little guy!  But I wouldn't trade it for the world... 

So while the big guys are away in Haiti, our days have pretty much been filled with...

Pool time... Cleaning up after the littles... some house organizing... soccer... More cleaning up after the littles... ordering school books for fall... late night movies with Anna and Jo...  A few moments of me time when I get out for a run... Some more cleaning up after the littles...

But like I said, I wouldn't trade it for the world...

Off to Haiti...

The St. Peter Mission team to Haiti June 2015

Last Sunday Morning 24 teens and adults form St. Peter and 3 other churches left bright and early for Haiti... 

I think their smiles say it all...

They were ready to be the hands and feet of Jesus to the people of Haiti...

Some of the youngsters on the plane getting ready to take off:)  We were super excited that Louis' girlfriend was able to make the trip with the group as well... Those 2 are both in their element serving abroad...  :) 

Louis is my social media updater... I usually know that if they have Internet access, I can count on him to touch base with us back home and keep us updated on things... 

I have a feeling that they haven't had any decent Internet since the very first night...  We haven't heard a word from Caleb or Greg and... 

Louis texted me this picture the first night saying, "I am adopting him:)!!"  Totally my son!

So I can take it that they are probably all falling in love with the kids, adults, and country of Haiti...

Hopefully we will get some updates, but I always figure not news is good news... 

They had a jam packed schedule of working with a couple of orphanages, doing VBS, the women to do some women's ministry while the men built a roof for a church, as well as working on some farming in some villages... I can't wait to hear all about it when they return...

I am especially excited to hear Louis' perspective... He has felt like he would like to go into missions as a career... He has loved Uganda, loved South Dakota and the work they did on an Indian reservation there last summer, and loves doing disaster relief.  

I am so thankful that he is getting an opportunity to see another county.  While we would 100% support him heading to Africa in missions at some point, I think it is great to see another place and really surrender to what God is calling him to and where... I am praying that God is making His way for Louis clear on if missions is really what God is calling him to do and maybe even a direction that maybe he is pointing him... 

We will support him wherever God calls him... It sure is exciting...  We shall see how the Lord unfolds his plans for him and all of us:)

Last day...

Another last day of school in the books...

Here is Hopie girl with the incredible Miss Blinn... She was an excellent teacher and exactly what Hope needed this past year.  We were so blessed by her and her patience with our family! Oh there were the tears a flowing when we went to pick her up from school yesterday...

Not only was it the last day of being in Miss Blinn's class and seeing some of her friends for a couple of months... but it was also....

The last day with this great man as principal at St. Peter School.  Mr. Kirsch retires after 42 years serving here at St. Peter... What a unique and special experience for the people here.  There are many people who grew up and attended school here and had Mr. Kirsch as a teacher that now have their children here in school... 

He is one of the most personable principals I have ever met... He is there doing parking lot duty and greeting the kids every day. I literally have seen him be the last person at the Sports banquet washing down the tables... 

He even went above and beyond to serve Hot cocoa at the preschool on freezing cold mornings... 

He has a servant's like unlike most others... and has given his heart and soul to this place... 

He will be GREATLY missed by so many...

I have met with him on a number of occasions about the older kids walking over to take some classes... 

Each visit he would always ask if I would just like to put them all in the school... (While we LOVE the school and it is a great help and fit for Hope... I have loved homeschooling the other kids in the past) We have been so impressed with the school on so many levels!  We really do love it!

He would always ask, but never put any pressure on, and he welcomed my Anna this past year with arms wide open for art, choir,  and sports after school... 

She has loved it and Jojo will join her over there for hopefully PE, art,  and a few hours on Friday... 

It is a huge blessing to us and as a principal he welcomed us as homeschoolers with respect, support, encouragement and kindness... I so appreciate that and him... 

It was emotional for me as a mom with just one child there in the school and a couple doing extracurriculars there... I know it was a super emotional day for many...  I realized that I really don't mind change and think that change is good... But in this situation, change is just hard... I know everyone will love the new principal, but it is hard to say goodbye to someone who is a staple here... 

What an example he and his secretary (Mrs. Namakoudis, who has been there for over 20 years) are to the people and especially the kids... Service with a smile and hearts that point back to Christ again and again...

Emerald lake hike

I am sure I have said it time and time again... but....

Estes Park is so beautiful... 

For me there is something about the snow capped mountains that I can not get over...

The view around every corner is more beautiful than the last...

It truly is breathtaking...

We have done the nymph, dream, and Emerald lake hikes twice before... 

The very first time was a couple of weeks earlier in the season...

At that time we encountered some snow on the hike from the second lake to the third lake...

This time there was snow on the trail head, at the very beginning...

It was unbelievably gorgeous and quite slippery...

But we made it and had a blast hiking the trail!

Here are kids at Nymph lake... totally surrounded by snow!  This is where Caleb and his friend got down to their underwear and made a mad dash to jump into the lake...

As they were getting ready they were drawing a bit of a crowd from our side of the lake and on the opposite side... Oh the laughs we had:)  Talk about a polar plunge:)

We were so blessed to spend time out there with Dear friends and some family!  Hopie loves uncle Johnny so much!

Our family up at the end of the hike.  We finally made it to Emerald lake.  The entire lake was still frozen... Even the over pass on trail Ridge road was still totally impassable... There is still too much snow... It has been a cold snowy spring for Estes Park... I think the snow in some ways made it even prettier...

And here is a picture from last summer at nearly the same spot... The reflections in the lake are so gorgeous and the water so still... We love the lake either way we get to see it:)


What a blessed week we had... a bit of a rough start... but praise God the van got repaired and we were on our way to enjoying the vacation and relaxing together:)  Loads of laughs and lots of games and hiking...

What a gift to spend a week enjoying the amazing Creation our Lord has made...
And the Mountains sing YOUR GLORY Hallelujah!
Thank you Jesus for every bit of your glory and power shown through out all you created!

Life...

Old post that  for some reason never posted... But since I keep this blog partially for my kids as a sort of journal for all that they experienced while growing up... I wanted to post it anyway:)...

This is how I found these two rascals... brushing teeth and washing their feet in the sink... double trouble for sure... I think Isaiah is the instigator (he is so curious) and Levi just thinks it is too fun to not try it with his brother:):)

And did I mention that we have another licensed driver in the house...

What a journey...

And on night one...

Louis takes her in the ditch... busting the back brake line... NICE way to start a vacation!
Thankfully the men were able to get it driven back onto the road... but you do kind of need those brakes when you are traveling through the mountains!

Night one we were told it would be at least a week or two to repair for any repair shops in town... Hello, we were set to leave only 5 days later...

Thankfully, with the help of UTUBE, and some really nice lady at the auto parts store, The menfolk, including the teenage boys,  had it nearly repaired but had to take it to a shop for the last step, bleeding the brake lines...

Due to getting to know the sweet heart of a lady at the auto parts store, she clued us into the repair shop in town, that everyone else failed to mention, that could get it done that next day!  Praise God, we were back in working order in a day... not a week or two!

The kids in Jojo's favorite candy shop! In fact of all the places he could have picked, recently  he decided to send his school business letter to this same shop as part of an assignment...
